Our team is happy to help with any questions you have regarding The Blaydon Race and your entry. Contact us using the form below and we will be in touch as soon as possible. Please remember that we are all volunteers.

What time would I be needed from and too?That depends on the task you'll be doing. If you'd like to marshal during the race, we'd need you from 17:00 - 22:00 on the 9th. If you'd like to help with the set up of The Race, we'd need you earlier on the 9th. You can select specific days/times you'd like when you fill out the form to let us know your interested in helping.

Do I need any qualifications or experience?No! In the lead up to The Race we will hold an online briefing led by The Race's Safety Officer and Event Organiser, you'll also be assigned to a section and have a friendly Section Leader who will pass you all the relevant information you need.

Who can volunteer?We welcome anyone over the age of 18 to help us! For under 18's, we'd still love to have your help, you'd just need an adult with you.

What's in it for me?Volunteering for The Blaydon Race is a fantastic way to be part of an iconic athletic event, even if you're not running. We rely on the dedication and enthusiasm of volunteers to help ensure the race runs smoothly. Volunteering is a great way to support the runners, engage with the community, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of race day. Thank you for considering contributing your time and energy to making The Blaydon Race a success! We like to take good care of all our volunteers as we really appreciate your time. Each volunteer will receive a T-Shirt, a can of our locally brewed Blaydon Race Beer and some food and drink provided by Greggs!

What will I be doing as a volunteer?There are various different tasks you could do to help us whether it be with the set up, during The Race, or the tidy up. If your helping during The Race, likely it'll be as a marshal located along our 5.9 mile course.

Where do the buses DROP OFF runners BEFORE and AFTER the race?Buses will drop runners off on South Shore Road, Gateshead. A short walk over the Millennium Bridge takes you to the Start Area, marshals will be on hand to assist runners.

I'm confused about the direction the buses will take me!Before the race, competitors have the option of using the free shuttle buses to travel from the Finish Area in Blaydon Town, to the Start in Newcastle. After the race, competitors have the option of using the free shuttle buses to travel from the Finish Area in Blaydon Town, to the Start in Newcastle. We offer this to minimise traffic in and around Blaydon which becomes congested on the evening! We also recognise most of our competitors tend to come from a central location which is Newcastle City Centre.

Where do the buses PICK UP runners from BEFORE and AFTER the race?You can catch the bus from Blaydon Leisure Centre which will take you to the Start Area, marshals will be on hand to assist runners onto the busses. There is NO parking available at Blaydon Leisure Centre for participants.

How do I add a bus ticket to my entry?We have taken the decision to provide buses, free to our competitors, this minimises parking and traffic flow in Blaydon town. Buses are included in every race entry.

How much will it cost to transfer my number to another runner?There will be no cost, but you must use our official process to complete the transfer. It is crucial you use this official channel so we can capture the new emergency contact details, and ensure our age and location prize categories are not skewed. Unofficial transfers will lead to both parties being disqualified from this and subsequent races.

Can I change my t-shirt size, food option or start zone after entries have closed?No.

When will I receive my race number?You should receive your number in the post no later than the 28th May 2025. If you haven't received it by then please use the contact form on our website. After contacting us, you will need to pick up the replacement from the Start Info Point, located on the Newcastle Quayside between 17:00 and 18:30 on the Ninth of Joon.

What do the symbols mean on my number?Colour - Signifies the order in which you'll be invited into the start pen. T-Shirt - Signifies the T-Shirt size you ordered. Hm/Ch or Ve - This is the food option you chose.

What if I can't find my number on the day?Proceed to the Start Info Point on the Newcastle Quayside which will be open between 17:00 and 18:30 on the Ninth of Joon.

How do I transfer my number to another runner?Divvent worry if ye gan an hurt yasel, ye can pass yer place in the race to a fellow runner You will be able to transfer your number between 08:00 on 4th April and 20:00 on 14th April, by accessing the Participant Dashboard. You must use this official channel so we can capture the new emergency contact details, and ensure our numerous prize categories are not skewed. Unofficial transfers will lead to both parties being disqualified from this and subsequent races.

Where is the number sent?For the 2025 Race, we are dispatching race numbers after the transfer window, so the new runner will receive their race number direct from us.

Can I leave a bag at the Finish?Yes, attach the perforated strip from your race number to your bag and pass it to volunteers at the Bag Collection Zone on the Finish Area. Your bag will be available for collection on the Finish Area after the race. Bags will be subject to a random search; BHAC is not liable for any lost or stolen bags.

Can I defer my entry to next year?Unfortunately not. This is because of the costs already incurred by us. You can, however, transfer your number to another runner. Take a look at the Transfer FAQs for information.

When will entries open for The Blaydon Race 2025?Entries for the 43rd Blaydon Race 2025 are now closed and the event is full!

Is there a minimum age to compete?You need to be 16 years of age on the 9th June to compete in The Blaydon Race. We have 2 Junior Blaydon Races, which we hold at the Finish Area in Blaydon, the aim of these races is to encourage participation in athletics for ages 8 - 16. More details of this will be available on these races a little later in the year.

How much is the entry fee?We have kept our entry fees the same as 2024! £30 for UKA Affiliated Club runners. £32 for non UKA Affiliated club runners. (plus a small booking fee). Aall finishers will receive our famous Geordie Supper: Ham and Pease Pudding, Cheese Savoury or Vegan Stottie. Locally brewed Blaydon Race Beer. Crisps Watter Random spot prizes Plus, wor world famous Blaydon Race T-Shirt! Also included: Chip timed results Fully road closed event. Free participant photos Eligibility for the massive selection of prize categories.
