About the Blaydon Race
The Blaydon Race was first held in 1981, the 5.9 mile route is based on the lyrics to the 1862 song by George 'Geordie' Ridley - 'The Blaydon Races'.
A celebration of the North East's running community, local culture and heritage, The Blaydon Race is organised by Blaydon Harrier and Athletics Club.

Following in the footsteps of the famous Geordie anthem, the Blaydon Race takes runners “alang the Scotswood Road” every year on the ninth of Joon. Beginning with the ringing of the famous Blaydon Bell, runners set off from Newcastle city centre on their journey to Blaydon. A route steeped in local history, tradition and unmistakable Geordie spirit.
